My 5 year old completed the entire game without any problems. I actually like the program and he's a very strong player now. My only complaint would be the cartoon kids are often very rude and say some things I didn't want my kid repeating (which he did, of course. Now he thinks it's okay to call your opponent stupid.): they simply have bad attitudes...
Not being able to skip the cartoons is kind of annoying but they often have important lessons that shouldn't be skipped. And, yes, some of the games don't seem chess related at all, and I was kind of confused by their being in the game.
Overall, I would say this is a fantastic game and just regret the personality flaws the characters have. I know being 'sassy' is supposed to be cool these days but it's really just destructive. Because of this I'm taking away one star but I should probably take away more. It has caused me a lot of grief in trying to counteract the negative behavior my child picked up.
Thank you, developers, for making this game. It really helped me introduce the world of chess to my son but, in the future, try to spend more time understanding who your customers are: Kids.

8/13/2019 – A New York-based chess instructor and entrepreneur reports on teaching chess in Tanzania. After working in corporate America, doing enterprise sales for the likes of Oracle, EVAN RABIN rekindled his interest in teaching children and formed Premier Chess in September 2017, quickly expanding to 58 programs. | Photo: Paul Njau
7/12/2018 – The 9th Annual Hong Kong Scholastic Championship took place on June 10 at Kellett School. The activity was a great success, as more than 150 children participated. Individual and team winners received awards after struggling during seven hours of rapid play. A big pictorial report shows that Hong Kong might have a bright future in chess, if these initiatives take root. | Photos: Official website
The setup for White recommended by Valeri Lilov is solid and easy to play – the thematic moves are almost always the same ones: Nge2, 0-0, Bg5 (or Be3), Nd5, Qd2. Later, according to Black’s setup, things continue with f4 or even Rac1, b4 and play on the queenside. Starting with the classic Botvinnik-Spassky, Leiden 1970, the author describes this universally employable setup in 7 videos (+ intro and conclusion).

Learn To Play Chess With Fritz And Chesster
Hi - where on the cd or box is the serial number written, do you know? I still have the cd and box and was disappointed it stopped working on my Mac but would love to give it a second whirl.

Interesting. But I'm curious how the approach is going to work with kids. When a product is designed for kids, it is assumed that when funny cartoons are used, kids will somehow come to like it. This is one approach. It is also seen in chess kids (chess .com's site). But I'm not very sure if this alone will work, if you ever see how kids play with such platforms. They make too many mistakes, and sometime they just don't read them. The other factors to take into account is about non-native/non-English speaking kids.
Another approach would be to inculcate the 'learning by doing' approach along with gamification as pioneered by Chessity (http://www.chessity.com). Which I am a fan of.
I wonder what other parents think about it... Do your kids learn chess online? How to make it fun, while making sure they are learning well.
